Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our classroom and school.
Here are some ways you can help:
*Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work!
*Look at your child's homework folder every day. This will have important information for the week, along with the current week's spelling words, high frequency words, and helpful reminders. Additionally, the student's behavior chart and daily homework plans will be in the folder. I encourage you to use the homework folder as a tool to communicate with me! You may leave notes, completed school forms, and lunch money ( sealed in an envelope with your child's name and lunch number labeled on the front) in the right pocket of the folder.
* Review spelling words, high frequency, and even vocabulary words in fun-filled games. For example, time your child in a race against the clock by reading as many high frequency words in 2 minutes, 1 minute, 30 etc. Create flashcards and practice with them during car rides, time in between after school activities, or at home. Create "word of the day" challenges by encouraging your child to think of as many ways a vocabulary word could be used in their daily routine. * I will update more games and methods as the year progresses*
*Read to and with your child everyday, if possible. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom. Remember to record all reading in your child's reading log.
